Does Voting Matter?

Rebecca Davis writes in South Africa’s Daily Maverick that “fervent supporters of the Republican and Democratic parties are no longer inhabiting the same moral universe.”

The South African woman is in the United States for our election. Trump’s gruesome retrenchment from the globe into his own ego impoverished much of it, especially Africa. Why? Because the America that I knew and loved before Trump helped the world. Trump doesn’t even help America, Davis concludes. All he tries to help is himself and his tiny family.

Kenya’s Business Insider today recounted several unbelievable examples of Trump on the stump last week, when a person in his audience collapsed:

In Cape Girardeau, Missouri on Monday, the magazine reported Trump’s incredible indecency continuing to boast about himself while the woman was being treated and removed by medics.

In Nigeria analysts took apartTrump’s Op-Ed in USA Today last Wednesday, basically laughing at his wholesale disregard of the facts he then lied about: (the Mercatus Center report on Healthcare that would push down the cost of health care).

In Nigeria’s popular OpEdNews Larry Butler explained that the problem with “liberals in America” is that they aren’t liberal, as the whole country veers right.

That’s certainly true of Republicans. We live in a fairyland when people like Cruz and Walker and Rubio and Graham embrace Trump. But that fairyland grows dark and onerous when such desperate leaders command the support of their electorates as they swerve in and out of reality – that’s mindspeak and brainwashing, the introductions to holocaust.

Today we vote in America. My gut tells me that sanity will prevail. My mind isn’t so sure.
